Welcome to MPMdb!

Introduction for MPMdb

Pathogenic microorganisms pose a significant threat to public health worldwide. Metabolism is a critical element in host-pathogen interactions. Metabolites not only affect host immune responses but also influence the virulence gene expression in pathogenic microorganisms. Metabolites analysis is the essential clue for understanding the pathogenic mechanism, living environment, and evolution of pathogenic microorganisms. Seed metabolites are certain metabolites that are not synthesized by organisms and need to be got from the environment to sustain their growth and metabolism. The seed metabolites of pathogenic microorganisms play a crucial role in their growth and reproduction, communication with the external environment, and host infection. However, large-scale screening of metabolites or identifying seed metabolites has always been the main technical bottleneck for the slow development of metabolomics, which greatly limits understanding of the characteristics of pathogenic microorganisms.

The MPMdb is committed to systematically predicting and identifying the metabolites and seed metabolites of pathogenic microorganisms based on publicly available pathogenic genomic sequences. A total of 124192 pathogenic microorganism strains of 898 species under 34 genera were collected and investigated.

In MPMdb, users can

  • Browse, search, or download metabolites and seed metabolites of each pathogenic microorganism.
  • Analyze and browse the enrichment of each metabolite and seed metabolite at different genera.
  • Analyze and browse the intersection of metabolites between different pathogenic microorganism strains that exist in MPMdb.
  • Predict the seed metabolites of a customized bacteria by submitting its genomic sequence.
